Women: Take a bow & make yourself a priority!

Happy women's Day to all the lovely women out there!

Today is the Day to celebrate you! Your dreams and wishes, struggles and successes.

Every Day women are breaking the glass ceiling and reaching new horizons. From travelling to Mars, leading organizations and countries through the worst crisis we have ever witnessed. We are moving in the right direction. But the flight is far from over.

The media and society often portray unrealistic beauty standards, glorify self-sacrifice and celebrate Super-woman's image. These unrealistic expectations often put ideological pressure on women. And can sometimes make women feel like they don't measure up. They struggle to prove their worth till they burn out! I have witnessed many such examples during my career as a psychologist, coach and trainer. Challenging these harmful messages and focusing on your unique strengths, talents, and qualities is essential.

It is surprising that even today, when women earn more than ever, they flat out and do not have enough money to put toward long-term financial goals (Prudential 2016). Almost a third of those surveyed cited a lack of disposable income as their most significant financial planning challenge!

Women, Remember to:

  • Put yourself on your priority list! Take care of yourself, get enough sleep, eat well, exercise regularly, engage in activities you enjoy and build your Networth.

  • Never doubt your capabilities or fall prey to Gender Stereotyping. Stereotypical beliefs about women's roles and abilities can lead women to doubt themselves and their capabilities. For example, if a woman grows up hearing that women are not good at math, she may be less likely to pursue a career in a STEM field. In the digital age, Data is the new oil! Being data or tech-averse is no longer a choice!

  • Surround yourself with people who believe in you, who can pull you up when you fall and applaud you when you rise & shine. We become an average of five people we meet regularly, choose them wisely. Besides, having a supportive network can help you feel more confident and empowered.

  • Dream, it's your life, and only you can make it happen! Take control, define your purpose, use your unique gift, set achievable goals and make the difference you wish to make.

  • Don't forget to celebrate your successes, big or small. Treat every failure as a learning opportunity.

  • Prepare for the world that is changing at a rapid speed. The only way to match up is by learning new skills.

As we create new history and set the reset button, we need to remember that we are not only changing the hardwiring within ourselves, but the world is also adapting to empowered women. Men are learning too. We all know incredible men who support women in so many ways. Make them your partners on your path to success.

Life is beautiful! Live in the moment, and pay attention to who you are and where you wish to go. Speak up for yourself. If you don't stand up for yourself, who will?

Smile & shine! The world is yours!

Happy Women's Day!
